Why was the crusade a just war

Whether the Crusades actually were a just war can be a very hotly debated topic. Historians would disagree with this idea as well. In general, the crusades were a series of conflicts and invasions of christian forces from Europe which attacked different strongholds that were held by mostly muslim defenders.
