In 1831, both major political parties followed the example of the Anti-Masonic Party in holding national nominating conventions. Anti-Masonic Party is a 19th century single issue third party that opposed freemasonry as well as Andrew Jackson. They drew support from Evangelists and aspired to remove the politically influential secret Masonic Order. It was founded year 1828 and was dissolved in1836.
