5(9 − 3) = w • 9 – 5 • 3

5(9-3) = w x 9 - 5 x 3
5(6) =  9w - 5 x 3
30 = 9w - 15
now add 15 to both sides of the equation

30 +15 = 9w - 15 +15 =    (think of it as 9w + -15 +15 which leave only 9w)
45 = 9w

45 = 9w
 9     9             and w = 5
