A constitution provides government with its legal framework. It also stipulates the modus operandi of the government. As such, one gets the organization, purpose, and scope of the government from the constitution. The constitution also contains the framework and guidelines of how any government makes laws. The criteria of how people are selected to run government. The constitution also defines, limits and validates the powers of the government.
