The absolute value of a number can never be negative. That's because it represents the distance of a number from zero on a number line. The number [tex]-8[/tex] is [tex]8[/tex] digits to the left of zero on a number line. So, the absolute value of [tex]-8[/tex] would be [tex]8[/tex] .
