The Marshall Court did not strengthen Federalism in the case of Gibbons v Ogden rather, it collapsed the foundation of such because monopoly in commerce activities was so rampant during those days. The case was an exclusive grant of 20 years of navigation privileges on all the waters under the US jurisdiction. It had paved the way for businessmen to take advantage of the situation.
