It allows you to earn college credit by taking advanced courses. It's weighted differently: the highest you can earn in a regular class is a 4.0, the highest you can get in an honors class is 4.5, and the highest you can get in an ap class is 5.0. You take an AP test at the conclusion of the course to see if you qualify for college credit.
