The two objects are plotted at different points in graph and one gets the difference of points y coordinates (change in y) and change in x too.

Then one can look for distance as hypotenous and change in y as height and change in x as the base of our imaginery triangle.

Therefore, from Pythagoras Theoreom:

hyptenous² = height² + base²

Distance² = change in y² + change in x²

Distance = √change in y² + change in x²
