It acts as a barrier so basically hydrophillic loves water, The molecules and ions DONT let them enter, that's important. The channel protein poses like a gateway across the cell membrane to let the hydrophilic molecules and ions enter it, Hope that helped some answer my question please.

channel protein is embedded in the membrane and covers the entire membrane. This is important because the channel must transport the ions and micromolecules in and out of the cell.
