Historians know so much about the civilizations that lived thousands of years ago is because the evidence those civilizations left behind. Civilizations may not last forever but the things those civilizations produce can. For example, ancient buildings, books, jewelry, and even ruins. Books can tell how they live, dressed, eat, and etc. Historians can even tell from other books that other civilizations have written about the certain one you are searching for.
