On both occasions, the official government lied and tried to hide something. The Vietnam War was presented as something noble and important, while it was actually a useless war where many people lost their lives for nothing. Watergate had officials spy on others and then trying to cover it up. On both occasions, people started doubting their government and whether it wants what's best for the people.
