Explanation:
Katniss almost dies, many, many times. At the end of the games, she doesn't want Peeta or herself to die, so she attempts to eat nightlock (deadly fruit) so the games wouldn't have a victor at all. Because of this, President Snow tries to kill her many times and fails. That's the first and the start of the second book.
