Explanation:

Voltage regulation is achieved by a transformer. Specifically, we have two types of transformer for the stepping up of voltage and for stepping down of voltage separately. A transformer being a static device is very useful and almost noiseless.  

In a step-up transformer, we have primary winding with lesser no. of turns and larger in radius while the step-down transformer has the reverse of the former configuration mentioned.
