Let´s mention two important social effects.

One is urbanization; more and more people moved from the countryside to the cities to work in factories.

The other is the impoverishment of the working class that had to work extremely long hours - men, women and children were forced to work sometimes 20 hours per day - for very low payment, with no social rights whatsoever.
