1) you multiply -2 by (x+1)

-2(x+1)

-2x+ -2

-2x -2

2) After multiplying it the answer you get you come and insert it into the equation

so

-2x -2 =-3

3)you take -1 across the equal to sign and then you work the equation you have now

-2x= -3

-2x=-3+2

-2x=-1

4) the answer you have now is -2x =-1,you want to find x so you didvide both sides by -2

-2x /-2=-1/-2

x=1/2

therefore x is half in other words ...x=1/2
