Born to an aristocratic family in the state of Lu in northern China, and both educated and ambitious, Confucius (551-479 B.C.E.) believed that he had found the key to solving China’s problem of their current disorder. He spent much of his adult life seeking for a political position, from which might just put his ideas into action. But no such opportunity came his way. Perhaps but all is still well as Confucius had left a profound imprint as a thinker and teacher in Chinese history and culture and on other Eastern Asia societies such as Korea and Japan. After his death, his students collected his teachings in a book called “The Analects”. As time passes, scholars elaborated and commented endlessly on his work and ideas, creating a body of thought known as Confucianism.
