Let [tex] x [/tex] be the unknown number. The sum of that number and two is [tex] x+2 [/tex]. Ten times this sum is [tex] 10(x+2) [/tex]. This must be equal to 300, so the equation is

[tex] 10(x+2) = 300 [/tex]

To solve this equation, we can divide both sides by 10:

[tex] x+2 = 30 [/tex]

and subtract 2 from both side:

[tex] x = 28 [/tex]
