The Indian tectonic plate hit into the Eurasian tectonic plate and continued pushing after the collision and the land started to lift thus the Himalayan mountain range started to form. The elevation of the land was due to both tectonic plates having the same density so they were not submerging between one another but pushing towards each other and creating pressure and lifting the land up. The Himalayan mountain range continues to grow and it is estimated that it is lifting up around 8cm annually.
