When we talk about the range of a function, we're considering which output values are represented, usually graphically, by the function. Your inequality represents all y-values above the line y=4x-4. The line runs from the 3rd quadrant to the 1st quadrant, so the range is every y-value above the line. The range is (-infinity, infinity)
